Eskom will give rebates on solar water heater installations. We are using an international best practice model for rebates.
*Before you buy from a supplier, check whether the supplier will claim the rebate and offer you the discounted price, or whether you will pay the full price and then need to claim the rebate from Eskom yourself.*
Suppliers have the option of claiming the rebate from Eskom on behalf of a buyer. As a customer, you cede the rebate to the supplier you buy from – and in return you pay the rebated/discounted price.
Suppliers who wish to do this must have agreed this with Eskom first and will submit their customers claim forms.
You pay the full installation price and claim back the rebate amount from Eskom.
To claim your rebate all you need to do is submit a claim form, provided to you by your registered supplier/installer. Note that in order to claim a rebate you must install a registered system and use a registered installer.
Both you and the supplier must complete the claim form and it must be signed off by a qualified electrician. You must then submit it to a facilitating auditor that oversees payments. You can then either post or drop it into one of the designated drop-boxes.
You will receive your rebate within 8 weeks of receipt of your completed claim.

Steps to claiming your rebate
To claim your rebate you need to submit a claim form that will be given to you by the registered supplier that installs your solar water heating system. Note that you can only claim a rebate if you have installed a registered system using a registered installer.
The claim form must be completed by both you and the supplier and must be signed off by a qualified electrician. You must then post it to a facilitating auditor or drop it into one of the designated drop-boxes.
These facilitating auditors oversee payments of rebates, which usually occurs within 8 weeks of receipt of completed claims.
Quick step-by-step guide
- Research appropriate solar water heating systems on this website, and on other websites, by speaking to suppliers or by calling our Solar Help Desk on (011) 800-4744.
- Choose and install an Eskom accredited system supplied by an accredited supplier and registered installers.
- Ensure that an approved programme timer is installed and set by a qualified electrician.
- Ensure your supplier/installer and electrician fills in the relevant details on your claim form.
- Complete your own details on the claim form and attach the required documents (e.g. original invoice, copy of your ID, copy of utility bill and/or electricity bill).
- You must:
- post the claim to facilitating auditors (Deloitte), in the provided self addressed envelope or
- drop the envelope off in a designated drop box within 6 months of date of installation
- You will receive the following SMS notifications:
- when facilitating auditors receive your application
- when your application is processed and queued for electronic funds transfer
- If your application is incomplete and has either been returned or the problem is being rectified by your supplier
- Payment of the rebate will be made within 8 weeks from date of receipt
